Lynyrd Skynyrd “Sweet Home Alabama” guitar instruction

For many new guitar players Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” is a fun and easy song to learn to play. There are only four chords in the song D-C-G-F. However, many guitarists play Sweet Home Alabama only using D-C-G. The F chord is only played a couple times during the song which gives a break from the D-C-G pattern.

J.J. Cale’s “Cocaine” is a very easy song to play on guitar. It basically moves back and forth between an E and D chord with an open low E string ringing out. Eric Clapton plays this at the 7th and 5th fret. At the end of the chorus the chord progression walks down from E-D-C-B at the 7th, 5th, 3rd and 2nd fret also with the low E ringing out.
